Mary’s Land Farm

UPDATED: Originally published in July 11, 2020, I have since registered my children again for summer camp 2021, and they are joining the Farm Pals age group where they continue to learn about farm life, play in nature’s swimming pool (the creek!), and interact with other kids their age. On their third year of operating summer camps, Mary’s Land Farm is only offering whole-day programs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and since most of their times are spent outdoors, children need not wear a mask.

Kids search for bugs with kids of a different species!

The children start their day discussing the day’s theme and virtue. They then connect it to their day’s activities which may include feeding animals, learning about the different herbs, catching bugs, and, for many little nature lovers’ highlight, a dip in a little creek! Wagon rides are a fun way to visit the greenhouses and the chicken coop where they also got to help pick eggs off the conveyor belt.

I was personally happy that in-person camps were available, and that children, who have been cooped up in their homes throughout distance learning, get a chance to go outdoors and learn about the world outside the walls of their homes. I also liked the fact that the campers were always engaged and they didn’t just let the kids do “busy work”. A farm is a wonderful place for children to learn and explore and though it’s a pain to clean out their water shoes and wring out slightly muddy swim clothes, it is well worth the joy my boys came home with after every camp day.

To sign up for camp, check out their website here. They still have some openings left before the summer ends.
